Movie of the Week: SLC Punk!

I'm pretty sure most people that are fans of us on Facebook have probably seen this movie, but whatever. I love the shit out of this movie. Matthew Lilard before he was in those shitty Scooby Doo movies...and Devin Sawa before he disappeared forever. This movie has the perfect mix of humor and drama. The ending is probably one of the saddest endings to a movie I've ever seen. Even thinking about it gets me all emo and sad.

I don't know, what else needs to be said about this movie? If you haven't seen it, it's probably still on Netflix. You should just check it out for yourself and decide if it's as good as I think it is. Whatever, I don't really give a shit. I think this movie is fucking great.

Movie of the Week: Tootsie

In the vast list of movies about cross-dressing, Tootsie is one of my favorites.  Definitely top two...right there next to Mrs. Doubtfire...at any rate, it's way better than all the Big Momma's House movies.  To Wong Foo...there's I think I've named them all now... Okay, I guess Some Like it Hot has cross dressing in it too...and Victor Victoria, but that's different...I'm getting off track.

Dammit, Sorority Boys...

Anyway, Tootsie is about a man named Michael Dorsey(Dustin Hoffman) who, while actually being a very talented actor, is also a huge pain in the ass and very difficult to work with.  He had pretty much pissed off every director in town.  Blacklisted I believe is the term.  Even his own agent tells him that no one is willing to work with him.  So, he pretty much says, "oh yeah!?" and, with no set up or warning, the immediate next shot is of Dustin Hoffman walking down a crowded street dressed as a woman.  But I suppose I'm getting ahead of myself.  There's a couple things I gotta fill you in about first...

So, Michael has a roommate (Bill Murray!) who is a playwright and he's got this great play that he's writing in which Michael would play the lead.  But, they can't get anyone to produce it cause again, Michael is a pain in the ass.  Also, there's Sandy, (Teri Garr) who Michael is running lines with for a part in a soap opera she is auditioning for...and now you're up to speed.

Now Michael, for lack of any better ideas to raise money for Bill Murray's play, puts on a dress and makeup, calls himself Dorothy Michaels, and auditions for the soap himself.  Since he's a great actor, he totally pulls it off!  From there, he keeps getting hit on by other male actors, he gets set up on dates with older men, he falls for his costar who is a women (Jessica Lange), but clearly she doesn't know he's a dude...it's hilarious.  

I don't hand out the 4 star rating very often, but this one is a classic.  It's well cast, well acted, well paced, it's silly yet realistic...Seriously I just think this movie is great, though I doubt many people my age would agree with me.  This is one of those that I honesty think could be remade, and I think Robert Downey Jr should do it.  I'm just throwin' it out there.  It could work!

Shit, White Chicks....but fuck that, that movie sucks...like...hard.  Anyway, go check out Tootsie!

Movie of the Week: Tommy Boy

Oh my god, I fucking love this movie. One of my all time favorites. Chris Farley is great and David Spade is his perfect counter. This movie had everything I wanted from it, a road trip, slapstick, deer vs car destruction, Dan Aykroyd, and so much more. Comedy is a hard thing to sell. Either you get it or you hate it. You can't take someone's word for it when it's based on your own sense of humor. Unless that person gets you, I mean. If you are a fan of comedy, I recommend checking out this classic. If you are not a fan of comedy, I recommend removing the stick from your ass and growing funny bone.

The SpongeBob Squarepants Movie Review

SpongeBob is one of my favorite cartoons of all time. There. I said it. I know I should be "too old" to love this show as much as I do...but fuck that, I love it. I know the show has really dipped in quality over the past, you know, 5+ years or so, but I don't watch the new episodes, so I don't really give a shit. I mean, look at The Simpsons. That show has over stayed its welcome for quite a while now, but I will forever love that show. With all that wumbo jumbo (see what I did there? Oh, you don't like SpongeBob? Nevermind.) out of the way, it's time for me to start talking about this movie.

This movie came out in 2004, so I was 14 at the time. To say I was the perfect age for this movie at the time would be very accurate. Though I still love the shit out of this movie, I'd say my 14 year old self probably loved it more. Not only is this a heart warming movie, it's also completely bizarre and fucking hilarious. I'd imagine watching this movie stoned out of your mind would be quite the experience. Did I also mention that Scarlett Johansson provides her voice in this movie? Oh wait, that doesn't matter...because you don't get to see her being all hot and stuff. Moving on.

Fuck it, here she is being hot.

Another thing that is great about this movie (not to mention the show) is the great songs in it. The fact that this movie ends with SpongeBob saving the day with Rock and Roll is fantastic. Oh yeah, SpongeBob also gets drunk from eating way too much Ice Cream, seriously....it's hilarious.

See? He's wasted.

The whole point of this movie is that nobody believes in SpongeBob because he's a kid (Is he really? I have no idea how old he is.) But he and Patrick end up saving the day. It's so simple, and yet it works so well. You'd be an ass hole to just assume because it's a cartoon that you're going to hate this right off the bat. (I'm looking at you, Dan.) Trust me, if you give this movie a shot, you're going to love it as much as I do. With all of that being said, I'll leave you with a picture of Patrick in fishnets.

Movie of the Week: Friday

I love this movie. There, I said it. Friday is just one of those movies that when it's on, I HAVE to watch it, even if it's just for a few minutes. I can't really explain it...this movie just has some sort of sick fucking attachment to my heart. You have Chris Tucker before he was making way too many Rush Hour movies, and Ice Cube before he became a "Family" movie "star". There's also that chick from Fresh Prince of Bel-Air in this movie...she's famous, right? 

This movie also reminds me of the time in 8th grade when one of my friends called our teacher Big Worm...I will love that kid forever. This is actually kind of a difficult movie for me to write about. I know it's not what you would consider a great film, but I just love it so damn much. It makes me so sad that Chris Tucker moved on and they made 2 mediocre sequels with Mike Epps. Sigh.

Any how, if you're one of the three people in this world that have yet to watch this movie, do yourself a favor and watch it. You won't be disappointed. :D

Justice League: The Flashpoint Paradox Review

I love the DC animated universe stuff. Taking great books and making pretty good animated movies based on it. From what I read, they stay as close as they can to the source material but I'm not that big into all the comics. My problem is I can't just start in the middle of a story, I like to see the beginning and grow with it. Sure I could buy the trades and get caught up but I'm not made of money, so I just haven't done that yet. With the cartoons, I could get the basic back story, get to know the hero, who they are, who their villains are, and get an idea of what I should expect. There, now you know my history with the DC Universe. I watched the 90's Batman and Superman Animated Series, and the Justice League/Unlimited that followed. With that, I feel I know the characters well enough. Crucify me if you want, fanboys, but I don't have all the time in the world to read everything I missed.

 You think Flashpoint Bats reads the Red Eye?

Flash is one of my favorite DC Heroes, after Bats and Supes of course. So when I saw the trailer for this, I was excited. But to tell you how little I knew of the Flash's books, I thought this was going to be the reverse origin story. The one were Flash goes back in time and becomes the bolt of lighting that turned Berry Allen into the Flash in the first place. I was wrong, this was much better. Showing alternate realities changed by one event. Showing what would happen if Berry Allen never became Flash, if Bruce Wayne was shot and Thomas Wayne lived, if Superman crash landed in Metropolis and not Smallville, if the Hal Jordan never got the power ring, and so on. A wonderful "what if" story.

The acting is phenomenal in this, but I didn't recognize anyone. Kevin Conroy as Batman, sure. As well as Nathan Fillion was Green Lantern but he was barely in this. Oh and like one line from Ron Perlman as Deathstroke. Other then them, no one else popped out at me, and looking at the IMDB didn't reveal much else either. That takes nothing away from this film, it is still a ton of fun and awesome to see what hero or villain is gonna show up next. So if you want a fun action packed film with a little mystery and a different take on your favorite heroes, check this one out!

Movie of The Week: The Andromeda Strain

The Andromeda Strain is the 1971 film adaptation of the Michael Crichton novel of the same name.  It's really a different breed of movie than exists today, and I'm gonna try really hard not to compare it to other virus movies from more recent years, because that's really not fair to this movie...welp, I tried.  Let's compare it to Outbreak!  Outbreak is one of my favorite movies.  It's got an amazing cast, a thrilling and suspenseful story, it's got action, shooting, helicopters, bombs, bleeding from the eyes, shouting, swearing, Morgan Freeman, and pathogen carrying death monkeys...What's not to love!?  Here's the thing though:  The Andromeda Strain is not supposed to be anything like Outbreak.  The Andromeda Strain is crafted specifically to make the audience tear their hair out from the suspense!  It's supposed to make you feel uneasy the whole time.  You're not supposed to be scared, or entertained really about anything that's going on, but simply on the edge of your seat, worrying your ass off about what's gonna happen.  This movie does it's job very effectively.

The basic plot is that a satellite has crashed in a little town called Piedmont, and when the government sends people in to retrieve it...all of a sudden, they just up and lose contact with the people they sent in, and they don't know why!  So, before sending more people in, they at least go grab a couple of science-y people and put them in like space suit things...and then put they sent them in there.  What they find is rather unsettling.  Everyone is dead.  They're just dead.  And these people aren't all bloody, or curled over in pain or anything like that.  They're just dead...like they up and died doing whatever the hell they were doing.  They just dropped!  It's really creepy actually how calm everyone looks...like the whole town has a nap-time.  So anyway, the science-y people in the suits find the satellite thing, and come to the conclusion that the town doctor ( most likely the only guy in town who can read) pried the thing open, and in doing so, inadvertently air-murdered the whole town.  Nice going Doc!  Also, apparently only two people hadn't been affected by the satellite: an old crazy drunk, and a baby.  So, the dudes in the suits (carefully) haul the satellite and the two survivors back with them to their super secret multi-level underground pathogenic research facility to try and figure this shit out.  Before they go down there though, they tell the Pentagon or whatever to nuke the entire area, or else we could all be doomed!...but they don't.  *dramatic music*

I'm not gonna tell you much more about the movie, because I actually want people to watch it, and your interest should be peaked by now!  And even though you've never heard of anyone in this movie ever, it's from the guy that brought you Jurassic Park!  Plus there's blinking red lights, seizures, lasers, countdowns, decontamination, crying, more decontamination, burning, even more decontamination, rubber suits, nukes, suppositories that decontaminate your colon (what?), testing, growth cultures, getting shot in the face, and even a monkey!  Oh yeah, and if I haven't mentioned this yet, a shit-ton of suspense!  So check it out...if you like older movies.  If not, there's a 2008 remake that I haven't watched yet, but it's probably a similar story with a lot more modern things like sex and explosions in it or something...ya know, I'm guessing.

...seriously though, it wasn't really all that exciting, but for the time it did exactly what it set out to do and that's why the star rating is as high as it is.  It's a classic!  Not the way Jaws is a classic, but I digress...

Movie Of The Week: Serenity

If you don't know what Firefly is yet, do yourself a favor and go watch all of it on Netflix right now. It is one of the best shows ever. Recently I got the itch to watch it all over again, for the 4th or 5th time now. Fourteen episodes of awesome. And this movie is the perfect end-cap to the whole thing. While not every question gets answers, it ties a nice bow on this great show turned cult favorite that got cut down way to early.

What makes Firefly/Serenity so great? Several things but mainly the great characters played by amazing actors. The future being not as shiny as Star Trek, but not as fantastical as Star Wars, or as boring as Battlestar Galactica (personal opinion on that one) and it has a wonderful sense of humor. It is also a little more realistic in its dealings of physics of space. This movie does work as a standalone, hell I saw this before I even heard of Firefly and thought it was amazing. To find out there was more, I was ecstatic. Watching it after watching all of the show is definitely more impactful with the events that transpire in the film. The movie is definitely in the same vain as the show, you can't tell the difference from the two (aside from better effects). Not like going from Star Trek The Next Generation to any of its movies, which look and feel tonally different. It helps that the main writer was still the one to write the movie, as well as direct it.

So if you have 12 hours to kill, or if you ever want to feel complete in your life, I recommend marathoning all of Firefly and Serenity. You won't be disappointed.

Walk Hard: The Dewey Cox Story Review Sorta Thing?

So I had no idea it was my turn to write a review today, and I really had no idea what the fuck I was going to talk about. So I decided to just review the last movie I watched (Well, I put this on last night when I went to sleep...but that counts, right?) It just so happens to be a movie I absolutely love. Obviously, that movie is Walk Hard. YAAAAAAAAAAY!

First of all, I have to say that I love John C. Reilly. I know he's one of those actors that people sometimes shit on for being the same character in all of his movies. First of all, that's not true. Second of all, he's amazing at what he does, so back the fuck off you jerks! I'd also like to say that this movie was what basically made me fall in love with Jenna Fischer. She looks gorgeous in this movie, and I just want to cry a little inside that I'll never have a chance in the world with her.

With all that being said, I suppose I should talk about this movie. Basically, the wrong kid dies, leading to Dewey trying to be the greatest thing to ever happen in life...because his brother he just cut in half with a machete had those dreams. Makes sense, right? This leads to a Walk The Line parody/life story thing happening. It's so fucking funny. Seriously. It's hilarious. THIS MOVIE IS FUCKING HILARIOUS. Did I mention that Jenna Fischer is really hot in this movie? I did? Well I just said it again.

That guy that sang Even Flow also has a cameo at the end of this movie, so that's cool. I don't really know what else to say about this movie. I can't even try to bring up all of the funny moments in this movie. I mean, he really wants to try some caaacaine...that was pretty great. How about that other part in this movie that was really funny?! That's like my favorite part!

To wrap this shit up, if you're dumb and haven't seen this yet, go watch it. If you have seen this movie and thought it sucked, I hate you. Seriously. I don't know why I know you. You're a terrible person who has no reason to live. End it. END IT RIGHT NOW!

Movie of the Week: The Count of Monte Cristo

The Count of Monte Cristo has been one of my favorite movies since I saw it in theater when it first came out.  I have seen it countless times, and I'm sure I will watch it many times in the future.  It's one of those movies where if you tell me that you haven't seen it...we're watching it.  I don't care if I already watched it earlier that day, we're watching it, cause you gotta see this...and I will probably spend most of the movie annoyingly looking at your face to see if you're enjoying it as much as you should be.  Yeah I'm that guy...

So, not only is this movie brilliantly cast, well acted, and paced wonderfully, but this type of story should have a special place in the heart of anyone who's ever felt like they have gotten the shaft before. It's a story about revenge!  Who hasn't ever wanted to serve someone their comeuppance on a nice frosty plate?  A frosty plate of doom!  I suppose for me, specifically, I love this movie because I've always been the fat kid who got picked on and stuff, so I happen to find the idea of somebody who disappears for a long time, reinvents himself, comes back unrecognized by his foes, destroys their entire world, AND THEN EXPLAINS THE ENTIRE PLOT IN A DRAMATIC AND PRECISELY TIMED MONOLOGUE!!!...*deep breathes*...quite appealing.  

So yeah, I don't want to give anything else about this movie away.  Just go watch it.  And if you've seen it already, fuck it, watch it again....Also the guy who plays Superman in the new Man of Steel movie is it is as a kid.  That doesn't really add or detract either way, but I figure I can at least keep this shit current.

Lincoln Review

So let me start this off by saying I am in no way a history buff, or a huge fan of politics. But for some reason I really wanted to see this movie. I just didn't have the heart to sit down and watch 2 and half hours of movie when it came out. Every film these days is over 2 hours, even the sucky ones. That said, I enjoyed the fuck out of Lincoln. 

Now I rented this movie because I was bored and as I said earlier I wanted to see it. I wasn't sure what to expect, aside from the time frame and knowing that you don't see him get shot at the end. The movie begins with two black soldiers talking to the President as he is visiting a camp. Daniel Day Lewis fucking nails the shit out of this role. You are in attention when he is on screen. There are parts when he is telling stories about why he is doing what he's doing and I just fell in love. It was like my grandpa talking to me, I didn't want it to end. So nomination and award earned, two times over.

The political side to the story is interesting. It talks about how Lincoln's cabinet was made up of both Republicans and Democrats and how they had to fight for the votes for the 14th amendment. This plays out sorta like an episode of West Wing. Serious but with the right amount of humor to keep you interested. It is definitely not for everyone, but I was really engaged the whole time. It was also fun watching without knowing everyone who was acting in it. It's like when people popped up I'd be like "Oh, that guy! Awesome. He totally fits that role."

This movie is really powerful and reminds you that not that long ago we just started correcting our country's mistakes. You see the fear for people who support the amendment and can almost understand the anger behind the fight against it, even while you disagree with them. I also came to the realization that I don't know shit about Lincoln. No idea he had two kids. I'm dumb. But I loved seeing his interaction with his wife and his children. Showing the hard times, and fights they had while he was also fighting to save the country. As well as Lincoln signing for the deserters of the war to not be hanged. It really makes you long for a leader with the gall to stand for what he thinks is right, to make the changes he knows are need. Really was the perfect movie for me to watch before our Independence Day. 'Merica, right in the heart.

I gave this movie a 4 out of 5 because I really enjoyed it. But I don't think I'll ever own it. I may watch it again but not any time soon. Is it historically accurate? I don't know, but it is entertaining and a joy to watch. Everyone did a fantastic job in this film, playing their parts well. None better than Lewis. And that 2 and a half hours doesn't hurt in the least to sit through. Go watch it, you might learn something. Might even make you think about what people are fighting for today.

Under the Dome Premiere Review

Wow, I've been writing a lot of stuff for us lately. Then again, I've had quite a few things I've wanted to talk about, so it has kind of just worked out perfectly for me. I'll start this off by saying that I'm a HUGE Stephen King fan. I've seen most of the miniseries and movies based on his work, and I've read a shit load of his books. He's probably one of, if not my favorite author of all time. (Very original of me, I know.) So seeing a commercial for this series a couple of weeks ago, I got kind of excited and kind of a "I'll wait and see" kind of feeling. After seeing Bag of Bones, I couldn't get my hopes too high for another miniseries/show based on his work.

With all of that being said, lets get into this shit. I'll just go ahead and say it...I really enjoyed the premiere of Under the Dome. Well, I did give it 4 stars...so if you aren't blind (sorry if you are) you would see that I thought this was pretty damn stellar. I mean, it has Hank from Breaking Bad in it, how could I NOT like it?! The plot is pretty simple, an invisible dome covers a small town in the good old USA. But there's quite a bit more going on in this, but the episodes clearly focuses more on the utter shock of the people realizing what the fuck is happening. We don't know how or why this happened, but shit just got real.

There's also quite a few of those actors that you'll be like "HEY, I KNOW HIM/HER FROM SOMETHING!" Kind of like Hank from Breaking Bad for me. :D There has obviously only been one episode, so I don't have too much to really judge at this point, but I have pretty decent hopes that this will end up being pretty damn great. It seriously can't be worse than Bag of Bones...that was reaaaaaaaaally not so good. What the fuck were they even thinking?!?!?!

Now I'd like to point out a theme that seems to be happening these days. There are now a bunch of horror/thriller/put genre that fits with these two here kinda shows coming out or that are already out these days. Bates Motel, Hannibal, Under the Dome, and soon to be Sleepy Hollow. So far I have not been let down. But I get a feeling even more of these kind of shows will come out...and it may really water down the whole thing. I hope I'm wrong, but I'll live with Hannibal and Bates Motel...and hopefully I can say the same for Under the Dome when things are all said and done. I just don't want to be force fed shit because these shows have been successful.

But to wrap this thing up, I'd say this is really worth a look. It breezed by for me, so I'd imagine you could take the time to check this out. If it's not for you, great. But if you end up liking it, I'd say you're smarter than the person who didn't like it. Just throwing that one out there. It airs on CBS...so basically any person who has a TV can check it out. Do you have a TV? No?! Well how are you reading this if you don't even have the money to buy a TV? Get your priorities in order, jackass.

This Is The End Review

I'm going to start this off by saying, I ended up seeing this movie a couple of weeks ago with two OTHER people. DUN DUN DUN! Dan and Josh haven't seen this yet, and with all the other movies we still need to see this summer, I figured I'd just write a nice little review for this movie. With all of that being said, lets get this shit under way.

After seeing trailers for this movie, I pretty much decided that this was going to be a must see for me. It looked like the most entertaining movie coming out in a long ass time, and boy was I right. This movie is so fucking funny. LIKE REALLY FUCKING FUNNY. It's a movie about a bunch of famous people you know, playing fictional versions of themselves. (One could argue that is basically all Seth Rogen does, but whatever.) Michael Cera is probably the biggest highlight of the first little chunk of the movie. I won't say too much about that, other than it's so much better than the trailer showed.

Another HUUUUUUGE highlight of this movie is Danny McBride. I love him in pretty much everything he does, but he was by far the best part of this movie, at least for me. Especially at a point in the movie when he and James Franco are arguing about a porno magazine. This movie also takes a comedic look at religion and moral values...and shit.So if you're into that kind of stuff, great for you!

I'll just end this quick little review by saying that you should really go see this movie. It deserves any and all praise it has received. It's well worth the trip to a theater, and you won't have to sit through 2 and a half hours of explosions in Man Of Steel! Yaaaaay. This has probably become my second favorite Judd Apatow flick, which is saying quite a lot. So check this shit out!

Movie Of The Week: Spaceballs

Movie Of The Week is sometimes a tough choice. Not in that I can't think of a movie but that there are way to many to chose from. This week was no exception. So I decided on one I love from my childhood, back when spoof movies were respected, had real comedy in them, and not just pop culture references rushed out to make a quick buck. I'm talking Mel Brooks good. I've seen every one of his movies and I enjoyed them all. This week I was reminded of Spaceballs by a Facebook post from I Fucking Love Science. This picture below.

I immediately thought of the asshole scene. I Fucking love this movie. From beginning to end. It was a much needed spoof on the space movies. But it just wasn't a rip off of a current story, just mangled with currently in jokes. No, it had its own story and it made reference to other films in the genre. They weren't pot shots at the actors who played the roles or current celebrities in the news. They took the time to properly satire a film. Even made you care about there characters at the same time. It can't always be stupid fucking joke after stupid fucking joke. Take time to craft your jokes.

Spaceballs pokes mainly at Star Wars, a little bit of Alien and Star Trek thrown in. It is amazing. If you haven't seen, you must. It's a comedy you can't miss. 4 Stars!

Game Of Thrones Season 3 Retrospective

Hey, guys and gals! Tonight, we are doing things slightly differently. We are all working together, as a collective unit, since we are all fans of the show and books. (except for Josh, he's dumb.) So since tonight was the Season 3 Finale, we decided to break down the entire season from each of our perspectives.

Bobby: 
So here are my thoughts on this thing. I've read every last one of these damn books. I loved every damn second of it(well...maybe not every second...the 4th book wasn't the greatest.) I've heard quite a few people complain that this season dragged on too much, or that it was boring. To those people I say "QUIT BEING IMPATIENT AND WAIT FOR THE THINGS TO BUILD UP AND BLOW UP IN YOUR FUCKING FACE!" Seriously, it seemed like people were expecting the season premiere to be one big cluster fuck of crazy things to happen. Having read the book and knowing all the crazy things that would end up happening, I was very happy with how the season started off.

As far as things that stood out to me this season, I have a few. First of all, the things that happened with Theon Greyjoy. I think I might be the only person on this planet who actually feels awful for Theon. The people I have spoken to about this all had the same reaction "He's a douche." Yep, a douche who no longer has a penis...I am really happy they decided to not write Theon off until they got to the 5th book, because those chapters were by far some of my favorites, while also being extremely hard to read. (That shit is fucked up!) I'm also a big fan of Iwan Rheon from his time of Misfits, and he plays Ramsay perfectly. He's a psycho, who enjoys hunting other humans and torturing them. Seeing all the things he did to Theon leading up to him becoming "Reek" is really interesting, while being hard to watch at times.

Arya has also been a highlight of this season for me. Her interactions with the Hound have been fantastic. He's a complete and utter piece of shit, and she lets him know about it. She also came so close to being reunited with her family, only for it to be ripped away from her. I suppose that leads to me talking about The Red Wedding. Though it was really well done, there were some things I could have done with out. For example, Robb's pregnant wife being stabbed over and over again in the stomach....yeah, didn't care for that much. This also lead to a scene in the finale that I really wanted to see, which was Robb having Grey Wind's head where his used to be. That was really fucked up, but great at the same time.

I suppose I can wrap it up by saying that the finale was pretty much what I expected it to be. Kind of like season 2, it was more of a "calm down and prepare yourself for next season" kind of episode. I wouldn't really expect them to do anything crazy after the pretty much blew everyone's minds last week. It wasn't anything special, but I enjoyed it for what it was. If season 4 ends up anything like I expect it to, I'm prepared to shit myself.

So, I don't know what that jackass was saying up there, but he's probably wrong about everything.  Unless he's agreeing with whatever I'm about to say about the show, in which case, then it was probably fine.   Anyway, what to say about Season 3? Well, I guess the best way to start would be to say that I did in fact enjoy it.  I don't want to nitpick about every little thing, even though that's pretty much all I ever do. I understand that the book and the show are going to vary from each other in places due to certain constraints and creative...whatever. What I will do though is take a moment to bitch about the things that happened during the season that differed from the book which just kinda stood out to me as useless, distracting, or wholly unnecessary.  First of all, I don't understand why we have the character Ros.  She is a character that doesn't exist in the book, yet she's been around since season 1. I don't know what purpose she serves (other than T&A...and don't get me wrong, that's nice, but she doesn't even do that anymore!) that they couldn't have given to a number of other characters, or, just had whoever did whatever she does in the book...do it.  You get what I mean! Then, out of no where, just in another way to show us that Joffrey is a lunatic (cause I guess we don't get that yet), she is murdered to death with a fucking crossbow.  If she really doesn't do anything, and then you can kill her off, and nothing really changes, then what was the point of her character in the first place!?

Also, what's with the "Podrick Payne is a sex god" shit? That's not in the book. What is it doing there? It does not further the plot in any way.  It's just used as a way to add a bit of humor to a show where everyone gets their throat slit at some point, I guess? But I'm sure there are other ways of doing that other than completely inventing a scenario that takes up at least 3 minutes of the episode. Granted, we got some titties out of it, which is always welcome, but I just don't get the writers' choice for this situation. They even keep bringing it up too, in various episodes! Come on! Stop wasting my time!

One other thing that really stood out to me was something that happened in the penultimate episode "Rains of Castamere." First of all, Jayne Westerling (or Talisa Meagyr for some fucking reason. Robb's wife) is present for Edmure's wedding.  In the book, they leave her ass somewhere else, for many good reasons. They didn't want to piss off Walder Frey by bringing Robb's new wife when he was supposed to be marrying one of the Frey daughters...which he didn't...ya know, the biggest fucking mistake ever as it turns out? Anyway, they have a scene where Walder Frey is further established as a creepy old man, (cause I guess we don't get that yet) and he talks about what she probably looks like naked and stuff.  Whatever. Oh, she's pregnant too, which is not in the book either, but they did it for one reason.  At the Red Wedding, they go out of their way to show you that she has a baby bump and everything, right before they stab her in the baby a bunch of times! They only had her there, and pregnant, to make an already brutal scene, even more the fuck brutal. I just really don't think it was necessary. I hope her character didn't have anything important to do later in the books, cause it's gonna be harder now.

Also, Shae is way different and I don't know where they're going with it...*shrug*

The reason I get so frustrated when they add shit that doesn't need to be there, is because so much of the time, there's cool shit that they could have put in it's place...stuff they've usually left out for reasons unbeknownst to me. Where's the cool ass magic tree door thingy at the bottom of the well at the Nightfort?!...and uh....ummm...I can't really think of anything else right now, which kinda speaks well of the show and that they are doing a pretty good job so, yeah. 4 stars.

I'm going to make the argument that watching Game of Thrones without having read the books is a better experience than having read the books first and then watching it. It's as if you are spoiling the show for yourself by reading ahead. Also, with certain characters having POV or their own chapters (or not) you know who a key player is and therefore less likely to be killed off, as with the Red Wedding recently happening. "Less likely to be killed" even if it is only fraction of a chance. Or it could be that I'm annoyed with everyone who has read the book always saying the same thing, it gets better or crazier. I really don't need the motivation to continue watching it without you talking about how you know what's going to happen. It is as if I am seeing a movie with someone who's seen it before, but won't stop telling me about the good part coming up. I'd like to formulate my own opinions, thank you.

Having said that, my friends (the two mooks I do a movie reviewing podcast with that shall remain nameless) kind of ruined this season for me. As well as the creators of the show. Everywhere I turned was someone else telling how amazing season three would be because of how awesome the books were. Out of 9 episode I had seen, two big things happened. Daenerys getting her army, and the Red Wedding. Those were epic. I saw the Daenerys story coming, but the Red Wedding, no. No idea they would ALL die. It seemed everyone was blown away by this. Not me, I was relieved if I'm to be honest.

Season 3 felt bloated with far to many stories to tell. Each episode seemed to spend 5 minutes on everyone at one time and 10 on this weeks star character. Rotating out with every new episode. There were some good moments aside from the two I already mentioned. Jaime losing his hand, Bran learning his powers, Ayra now with The Hound, Theon's torture and cock removal, Jon Snow saw a giant, and a handful of other stuff.  Oh and weddings. This season should have just been called Game of Weddings. Everyone got married, and no one was happy about it. Now I know I'm missing a lot but I'm not here to tell you what you've already seen. Even with so much ground to cover, the show was still captivating and fun to watch unfold. Faster-paced with more events happening and even more people dying. On to the season finale.

"Mhysa" begins with Ayra's escape from the massacre of her family, and on to the word of Robb's death to King's Landing. This episode caught you up on everyone, with some finally reaching their long time goals. Jaime returns to his sister, Bran made it north, Sam got the message back to Castle Black, and Jon Snow finally took an arrow to the knee. The rest of the show was setting it up for season 4. Theon's sister is going to avenge his cock removal, Ayra finally killed a man, Gendry is set free, Stannis and Melisandre learn of the white walkers, and Daenerys gets more freed slaves on her side. That is all well and good but this did not feel like a season finale. There was no cliffhanger aside from the looming doom that we've felt since early on in the season. Again I felt disappointment as the build up didn't pay off, much like with The Walking Dead season finale. Most of the blame for this falls on everyone singing praises for how amaz-balls season 3 would be but when it turned out to be at the same level as the rest of the seasons, I couldn't help but feel let down.

That is not to say it was bad, far from it. This show is great, I love the suspense, the action, the humor, and the knife twisting as your favorite characters get fucked over, over and over again. It's sadistic and I revel in every minute of it but would you all stop build it up like it is bigger and better than it really is. Our imaginations will never meet the reality. So if you'd allow me to experience it without the constant noise of "BOOKS! BOOKS GOOD! SHOW GONNA HAVE BOOK GOOD!" drowning out the actual enjoyment I receive in the show without someone playing it up at every turn, I would appreciate it. Over all, season 3 was great, a little unsatisfied with the finale and how lackluster it was in the end. For the season, 4 stars. The finale, 3 stars.

Movie of the Week: The American Scream

Well, it's that time again. Time for me to do a movie of the week, and time for me to recommend another documentary on Netflix! This week, I decided to pick The American Scream. This film documents a few different people and the time and money they spend preparing their houses for Halloween. They turn their houses into haunted houses, sounds simple, right?! No, these people (especially their families) go through hell trying to do this.

It's quite interesting to see how much these people go through, just for their love of Halloween. There are quite a few interesting characters as well. I found myself hooked within the first few minutes, just in awe of what I was seeing. This also showed me that I will NEVER go through that much just for one day. That sounds like no fun, and I don't like doing things that aren't fun. These people are absolutely fucking crazy.

I'd check it out while it's streaming on Netflix, it's really worth a look. 4...FUCKING...STARS.

Seven Psychopaths Review

If you watch the trailer below first like I did, you probably won't want to watch this movie. It just does not sell the movie that well at all. Hell, I downloaded it for us to do a podcast review of it and none of us cared enough to watch it. I should have just looked at the cast and trusted at the very least Christopher Walken to entertain me. At the moment I'm broke and don't have netflix any more and most shows I watch have ended their seasons for the summer time so now I'm left with my thumb up my ass, bored out of my mind. I thought about reviewing a video game because that's all I've done aside from watch youtube videos. So today comes, and it's my day to review something, and I had no idea what to do. Finally I remembered that I have a backlog of movies saved that I haven't watched that were all potential Knight's reviews that fell through.

Movie of the Week: The Imposter

So it's my time to do a movie of the week again, so I've obviously found another awesome documentary for you to check out! YAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAY! This has kind of become my thing, and I'm okay with that. This is a pretty strange story that I had never even heard of, but I stumbled upon this while browsing Netflix and was pretty blown away.

Without spoiling too much, a kid went missing, a guy pretends that he's a kid so the cops will take him to a shelter, and later uses the missing kids identity so he doesn't get caught. As fucked up as all of that sounds, it only gets stranger and more confusing. I was hooked into this story after about the first five minutes. I really can't say much more than I have without spoiling it (Why would you want to watch a documentary that was totally spoiled for you, idiot?!) So I'm not going to say too much more about it.

You should check this one out, as it is on Netflix's instant queue. It's an extremely strange story, emotional, and overall just an awesome documentary. WATCH IT! Seriously, what are you waiting for? Oh, you're still here? Go to your Netflix enabled device and watch this...right now. Do it. DO IT!!

Silver Linings Playbook stars Bradley Cooper, Jennifer Lawrence, Robert De Niro, and the return of Chris Tucker. This won some awards, got nominated for others, and was received pretty well.
