Movie of the Week: Frequently Asked Questions About Time Travel

So I was recently watching an episode of Game of Thrones on my Kindle Fire through my HBO Go app and I thought; "What other stuff is on here?" A quick search through their movies and I found this film. I had never heard of it. I never saw a trailer, read a review, or even knew who was in it. I only knew the title and the description you see above. But I was sold because I love time travel stories. And this movie is funny. I think I enjoyed it more because I never heard of it and went in blind. Sure Anna Faris is in it, but I didn't know that until I saw the opening credits. That had me worried that it would be a shitty comedy, a bad parody, or worse; feature a lot of Anna Faris's bad acting. But she is barely in this movie and she doesn't do a bad job or make me want to stab myself in the eyes at all this time around. It's a British comedy, and co-presented by the BBC as well as HBO. It's a location movie where they stay in one place the whole time but done in a way that doesn't feel like it. As well as you can actually feel like these guys are friends and feel like friends I have. It's not over the top and it doesn't leave you feeling like you wasted your time. The effects aren't bad either.

The trailer below is only if you need further help pushing you to want to watch the movie. I recommend going into to it with out watch it, but to each's own. It's fun, different, a nice story, and very enjoyable. Not the best, but good. Check it out if you have HBO Go, or buy the dvd on Amazon. Movie of the Week: What's Your Number

What's Your Number is not one of those movies that makes you go, "Holy Shit!  I have to go see that like right fuckin' now!"  It's the kind of movie that you might have seen a preview for once or twice.  It made you think, "Hey, I know those people from stuff..." and then you went about your day.  Some time later you're paging through your premium channel OnDemand menu, probably trying to find something to watch before your food gets cold, when lo and behold, you click on a movie that has people you know from stuff in it!  Finally for lack of anything better, you decide to put it on before you have to make the long trek to the microwave. (true story)

Anna Faris plays Ally (who as far as I can tell is really just Anna Faris).  Ally is a quirky yet awkward kinda girl who has been through a long string of failed relationships, probably due to poor ties with her mother, father, sister, herself, or some weird combination of the above...plus failure. In real life, this person needs counseling, but this is romantic comedy gold!  Shortly after the film begins, she is of course dumped by both her boyfriend and her job.  On the train home from her firing, she sees a magazine article that makes her realize she is kind of a ho-bag.  After confirming her ho-bag status with her friends, she realizes that she has reached her lifetime "sex with different guys" limit.  If she sleeps with one more guy, statistics say that she'll never be happy and die alone and barren or some shit.  So anyway, she concocts this scheme to look up all her old boyfriends to see if any of them have become marriage material since their respective relationships had ended.  She is helped in this endeavor by her across the hall neighbor Chris Evans (or is it Chris Pine?  Which one was Captain America?).  Chris...Captain America is an even bigger ho-bag than she is and helps her out as long as he can hide in her apartment while he waits for whatever chick he banged the night before to leave his place.  Anyway, the story continues from there and quirky yet awkward hilarity ensues.

If you are looking for some shocking twist ending, or explosions, or any sort of depth at all, this is not the movie for you.  Trust me, you know how this movie ends.  I won't tell you, but I'm sure based on what I've already described, you can guess.  We're not breaking any new ground here.  It's a romantic comedy for fuck's sake.  You watch it because it's supposed to be cute and funny and it makes you forget about whatever shit was on your mind for a while.  In my opinion, this movie does just that.  It's light and entertaining, and makes you feel less shitty for like an hour and a half.  Plus, there are a bunch of bit parts/cameos of other people you know from stuff...mostly shows on NBC;  People like Joel McHale, Chris Pratt, Aziz Ansari, Andy Samberg, Martin Freeman, Zachary Quinto, and even Ed Begley Jr.  If you are an expert with the pause button, there's even a bit of boob action from Anna Faris, which has been heretofore unseen! ( Don't judge me.) So yeah, if you need to kill some time, or need to escape into some fluff for a little while, or just need to see some people being silly, check it out.

Also, if you're a chick, you'll surely like it....I'm just kidding...but yeah, probably.
