Seven Psychopaths Review

If you watch the trailer below first like I did, you probably won't want to watch this movie. It just does not sell the movie that well at all. Hell, I downloaded it for us to do a podcast review of it and none of us cared enough to watch it. I should have just looked at the cast and trusted at the very least Christopher Walken to entertain me. At the moment I'm broke and don't have netflix any more and most shows I watch have ended their seasons for the summer time so now I'm left with my thumb up my ass, bored out of my mind. I thought about reviewing a video game because that's all I've done aside from watch youtube videos. So today comes, and it's my day to review something, and I had no idea what to do. Finally I remembered that I have a backlog of movies saved that I haven't watched that were all potential Knight's reviews that fell through.

So I turn on the PS3 and start up this flick. And it starts with these two mob hit men played by Michael Stuhlbarg and Michael Pitt talking about shooting people in the eyes and eye torture while waiting to kill a girl, which they have to shoot her eyes out per request of the hit. Funny shit, and then they get killed by Psychopath number 1 who leaves a pair of jacks on their bodies. Already I am digging this movie.

Colin Farrell plays a writer named Marty who is struggling to write a sreenplay, and all he has is a title, Seven Psychopaths. His friend Billy (Rockwell) kidnaps dogs, waits for a few days and then returns them for the reward money with the help of his friend Hans (Walken). They wind up kidnapping a mobster's dog, so as you'd think, he wants his dog back and he will kill for it. During this whole time, it cuts to scenes Marty is writing played out for us to watch. These are great. Some of the twists you can see coming, but it is still awesome. It is a great dark comedy. One of my favorite scenes is when Sam Rockwell's character is trying to help write the big action shoot out finale. And no, it's not just because of the great wet t-shirt worn by Abbie Cornish, although that doesn't hurt, no it's just hilarious and violent and great stuff. It's posted below, under the trailer. Not really spoilers, but maybe. So watch it if you dare.

I give this a 4 out of 5. It is just what I needed. Everyone is awesome in this, no over the top bullshit. The humor is something I loved but the story and the random cameos push it to the next level. Really. Look for Crispin Glover, he doesn't do anything, but he's in there. Check it out. Rent it at a Red Box or stream it online on Youtube or Amazon.
