In my constant search to be entertained, it's rare that I am turn on to a new show by an animated gif. This was the animated gif that a saw.
I laughed pretty hard at that. Reading the comments imgur, I come to find out it was from Todd and the Book of Pure Evil. Once I heard the name of the show, I knew I had to check this out. So I did a quick google search and found it was on Netflix. I squealed with joy, as I often don't find what I want easily.
Todd and the Book of Pure Evil is a Canadian comedy/horror show, airing on Space Channel in 2010. Craig David Wallace created Todd and the Boook of Pure Evil as a short film, and it was a hit in the film festivals. Now, I personally didn't know any of the actors in the show but that never held me back from checking out something new. Alex House stars as Todd Smith, the pure evil one from the prophecy. In the first episode Todd learns of the Book of Pure Evil and that it could help him become a guitar god so he can get the girl, Jenny played by Maggie Castle. Todd's one-armed friend Curtis (Bill Turnbull) blindly follows him no matter what. Atticus Murphy Jr. (Chris Leavins), the man in the gif punching the pregnant women, is also out to get the book back into the hand of the Satanist group. The only name you might recognize is Jason Mewes who plays Jimmy the janitor. He serves as the go to guy for advise and weapons to fight evil. Introduced later is Melanie Leishman's character, Hannah. The scientist of the group who has the thing for Todd.
This is show is fucking funny. It reminds be of Metalocalypse with the heavy metal songs and all the violence. There are even two musical episodes. There is a lot of blood, guts and needless death, and all of it is glorious. Being a Canadian show, it also has swearing, which I enjoy. It would never work on American tv. Aside from over used love plots and focusing on too dumb of jokes at times, Todd and Book of Pure Evil has far more hits than misses with good episodes. It is definitely for those with a twisted sense of humor. A down fall is that it only has two seasons. And while 26 episodes is good run these days, I would have liked to see the story come to an end. It'll fill your need to be entertained though.
Now, I'm rating this on Netflix's 5 star system, no half stars. That being said, I would have given this a 3 1/2 stars but I can't. Rounding down just didn't seem right because I did really enjoy it. So I chose to round-up to 4 stars. It's not the greatest show, but when viewing a comedy/horror show it did what it set out to do. Made me laugh and provided some nice creepy images. I loved the music. Jason Mewes was great. Some of the jokes are spot on. This show is not for everyone, but I'm recommending it. So check it out if you enjoy metal music, violence, masturbating jokes and a high school stoner setting.
